Talkback: How volunteering enriches our lives – Life Matters

There’s been a great deal of attention on Australia’s economic recovery this year and the importance of getting employment figures up, and rightly so.

But there’s a secret ingredient that keeps Australia’s economy going strong, which has also suffered a blow due to COVID-19, and that’s the country’s volunteer workforce.

New research from the Australian National University shows the sector was badly damaged over the last 12 months and has not snapped back, with an estimated 2.3 million fewer Australians volunteering in April 2021 than there were in late 2019.
