The secret letters of a prisoner-of-war that tell a story of enduring love – Life Matters

Doug Heywood was just sixteen when he found a stash of unopened letters.

Many of them were love letters from his father Scott to his mother Marge, and what they revealed is a remarkable story of survival and optimism in the face of the brutality of war.

Journalist Peter Rees and psychologist Sue Langford have told this story in their book A Week in September: A story of enduring love from the Burma Railway.
